The Steps to Success Project is a unique partnership between the Montbello community, faculty researchers from the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder and the CU School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital to promote positive youth development and reduce youth violence in Montbello through a coordinated community-wide effort.  The project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Centers of Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention (YVPC). Since the 2013-2014 school year, the project has implemented several evidence-based programs in schools and community settings in Montbello. Outcome highlights from the 2016 data analysis include:

Amy Schwartz of BuildStrong Education has been a key member of the leadership team of the project since the inception. In addition to Ms. Schwartz’s leadership, BuildStrong Education has provided funding to the project most specifically around the Positive Recognition campaign. In the fall of 2016, Ms. Schwartz became a founding board member of the Steps to Success, 501c3 non-profit board of directors.
